Nurse Aide Testing
Successful completion of both the State of Iowa written and skills test allows you to work in several health care facilities as a Certified Nurse Aide.

Course Description:
The state nurse aide written test is taken at Western Iowa Tech Community College in the testing center on a computer. You will have three attempts to pass the test before you are required to retake the nurse aide class.
The state nurse aide skills test is taken at Western Iowa Tech Community College. You will be required to perform up to eight skills in any given skills scenario. You will have three attempts to pass the skills test before you are required to retake a nurse aide class.
Important Information:
· Testing begins at 8 a.m. on the day of your scheduled test.
· Please allow for six hours of testing, as both tests will be held on the same day.
· Wear scrubs or clothing suitable for work in a nursing home.
· Bring your driver’s license, state ID, or passport. The name submitted to the state must match the name on the ID, so if it is different (hyphenated, etc.), please let us know as soon as possible.
· Bring a watch with a second hand (smart watches are not allowed).
· You must pass both the written and skills test to be on the Iowa CNA Direct Care Worker Registry. A score of 70% or higher is passing. To stay on the Iowa CNA Direct Care Worker Registry it must be reported that you worked at least one eight hour shift in a long term care facility every 24 months.
· In accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, testing accommodations are available upon request. They should be sent to the disability coordinator, Michelle Fiechtner Michelle.Fiechtner@witcc.edu), as soon as possible. If accommodations have already been requested, please notify us when you check-in.
· If you call on the day of the test or do not show up, you or your sponsor will be charged and you will need to pay for another test attempt. Refunds will only be processed if you notify us of your need to withdraw or reschedule 24 hours prior to the test date.
